Foundation is a key step to any makeup look no matter what your makeup experience level is. I think of foundation as the canvas of a look — you need a clean base before you add colors. Finding a foundation that is right for your skin can be tricky. This is true especially as it is getting colder and your skin may be on the drier side. Coverage is an individual preference, but I tend to go for a medium to full coverage look. I prefer to have a more natural finish rather than looking cakey. I made a point to list facts about each product’s ingredients. Ingredient integrity is important to me and it may be important to you. Here are my favorite winter foundations!
Sheer Velvet by Smooch! Studio
Sheer Velvet is a mineral liquid powder foundation which means that it goes on as a liquid and dries down to a powder. That is one of my favorite factors about it because I avoid using lots of powder on my face to set it. Not having to layer on lots of powder avoids a cakey and dry look. This is a medium coverage foundation and it gives my skin the most beautiful finish while still looking like me. Another plus is this foundation has SPF built into it. I will admit I am not the best at using sunscreen, especially in the winter, so this is a really big added bonus! The finish is on the matter side and I mix the shades Blonde and Nude in the winter season. This foundation is oil free, paraben free, phthalate free, hypoallergenic and cruelty free and retails for $48.50
No Filter Foundation Stix by ColourPop
The No Filter Foundation Stix is my go-to foundation when I am on the go or in a rush to get ready. I put stripes of the foundation on my face and with a damp beauty sponge blend it altogether. It blends so quickly and easily! It is a medium coverage foundation, but very blendable to get you to a more full coverage look. This foundation stick makes my skin look so natural, but blurred and flawless at the same time. In my opinion, it is in between a matte and dewy look. I love this aspect because it is a great base for any type of powder I use on top. I currently am using the shade Light 40 N, which is as dark as I can go in the winter, but with concealer it is the perfect shade. This foundation is vegan and cruelty free and retails for $10.00
Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination with SPF 50+ by It Cosmetics
The Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination with SPF 50+ is one of my favorite creams to use as a base on my skin. It is a full coverage cream, I personally have to use a couple pumps to get that affect, but it is definitely doable. I have very red skin and this tones it down immediately. I don’t find myself needing to use tons of concealer to even out my complexion. Again, another plus is that there is built in SPF 50+ which means I don’t have to worry about the sun damaging my skin. I prefer a dewy look to give myself a healthy glow and this product does the trick. It takes a little longer than other creams to dry down, but once it is on, it gives a very natural dewy look. This cream has an anti-aging serum, which contains hyaluronic acid, that makes my skin feel extremely hydrated – which can be a challenge in these cold months! I use the shade Fair and it is a perfect match. This foundation is phthalate free, paraben free, clinically tested, and cruelty free.
